Enjoy a soak in an open-air bath straight after you arrive and relax under the open sky that the bath is so appropriately named after while it’s still light. As our hotel is situated in an elevated area in Beppu, visitors can enjoy views out across the Beppu City to Beppu Bay when looking seaward and Mt. Ogi and Mt. Tsurumi when looking inland. Enjoy views out over lush greenery in spring and brilliant red leaves in fall. Oniyama Hotel is the perfect spot to take in all the seasons!

We named the restaurant Nagomi (relax) out of a desire to create an atmosphere and serve dishes that allow our customers to truly relax and unwind while they dine. The same floor is also home to our lounge Nigiwai , where groups traveling together can continue to chat and relax after their meal. This lounge also contains a foot massage corner to help you unwind from your trip.

Beppu Jigoku Meguri

One of the most popular sightseeing tracks through the area, called Jigoku Meguri, takes you around eight unique geothermal sites, including the cobalt-blue Umi Jigoku (literally, “sea hell”), Chi no Ike Jigoku (literally, “bloody pond hell”) with boiling, blood-red water, and Tatsumaki Jigoku (literally, “waterspout hell,” a geyser that spouts out hot water up to 20 meters high.

Visitors can try “Jigoku-mushi” - a traditional Kannawa dish dating back to the Edo Era in which ingredients are cooked in the steam that comes off the hot springs. In the Pocket Park next door, you can try “foot-steaming” or a foot bath (wheelchair accessible).

Atop the 1,375 m mountain range is a stunning aerial view of downtown Beppu City, Beppu Bay, and other surrounding areas. The Ropeway also commands a beautiful view of rhododendron kiusianum in spring, foliage in fall, and rime in the winter.

See 1,500 large sharks and stingrays representing 90 different species that dwell in the sea around Oita in a circular, tidal-style aquarium. Visitors can view the sea life from a variety of angles, and will feel almost as if they are walking around underwater in the ocean!

Beppu bambooware has been designated as a traditional Japanese craft. This attraction features bambooware history exhibits as well as introducing visitors to the different techniques and many articles crafted out of bamboo. The facility also holds classes where participants can learn how to make bamboo bells, coasters, and flower baskets.
